Elizabeth Freeman Center, Inc. represents the merger of two grass roots organizations:  Women Services Center, which incorporated in 1974 to address domestic violence; and Rape Crisis Center, which incorporated in 1976 to address sexual assault.  These two organizations combined in 1997 to strengthen and maximize the services, resources and response to these intimately connected forms of violence within our community.  In 40 years, we’ve grown from small groups of dedicated volunteers working out of their cars and homes to become a county-wide presence with an array of services.  We now have offices in the three major areas of Berkshire County with staff also sited in two police stations, three courts and the child advocacy center.  We are spread throughout the county, albeit thinly, to maximize access to help.  We have a shelter, a 24 hour hotline, counseling, advocacy, support groups, supervised visitation services for high risk cases, community education and engagement, primary prevention services in schools and youth organizations throughout our county and partnerships with many, many other organizations, groups and institutions.
